Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin Named as International Advisor

Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former French Prime Minister, has become an International Advisor to the Praemium Imperiale.
Mr. Raffarin has succeeded Mr. François Pinault, who resigned as French International Advisor in December 2012. Mr. Raffarin will preside over a French nomination committee and recommend candidates for the Praemium Imperiale from 2013. Mr. Pinault has become Honorary Advisor.

Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin

Born in 1948, Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin was appointed Prime Minister by President Jacques Chirac in May 2002, and remained in this post until May 2005. He was Member of the European Parliament in 1989 and was President of a Regional Council from 1988 to 2002. That year he founded a center-right political party, UMP (Union for a Popular Movement). In 2007 he was appointed Senior Vice-President of the National Council of the UMP. He was elected Vice-president of the Senate in March 2011 and in October 2012.

Mr. Raffarin is also:

- President of the Foundation for Innovation and Future Technologies
- Special Envoy of the President of the Republic for the French-Algerian Economic Relations
- Member of the board of The Boao Forum for Asia
