2020 Praemium Imperiale Special Yearbook “Power of Arts vs. Coronavirus Pandemic: Praemium Imperiale Laureates Speak Out”

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the power of the arts to heal and encourage people has been reaffirmed. We have asked previous Praemium Imperiale laureates for their thoughts and reaction to this pandemic. We have posed several guide questions; the impact of the coronavirus on the way they view and create art, on the role of the arts in these difficult times and the important lessons that they have learned from this crisis. We have received a wide variety of encouraging messages from a total of 49 laureates in five categories, which we have compiled into the special issue of the 2020 Praemium Imperiale Yearbook. This is thus a valuable testimony of this global crisis from the great artists of our time.
