Prince celebrates laureates of 2019 Praemium Imperiale at ceremony in Tokyo

TOKYO: October 16, 2019 – Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Hitachi, honorary patron of the Japan Art Association, and Princess Hitachi paid homage to the laurates of the organization’s 2019 Praemium Imperiale. They are William Kentridge, Painting (South Africa); Mona Hatoum, Sculpture (U.K.); Tod Williams & Billie Tsien, Architecture (U. S. A.); Anne-Sophie Mutter, Music (Germany) and Bando Tamasaburo, Theatre/Film (Japan). Each received a specially-designed gold medal, a testimonial letter from the Prince, and a certificate for 15 million yen.
